"Do not wish to live long, but to live well." Benjamin Franklin
I really feel sorry for those of you who don't know how to live.
I've been on Administrative Leave for over a month. And have enjoyed every minute.
Granted, it's not fun being broke.
My husband, being the Grumpy Man he is, is very paranoid. We have to pay the garbage pick-up, have we paid the phone bill, is the electric going to be shut off? Do we even have car insurance? Are we going to have enough gas money?
GEE Whiz!
He forgets that he makes twice as much money as I do, that his check pays all the bills.... that I can feed a family of 5 for only $25 a week. Granted, it takes a month to get that system going. But, shoot, it can happen. I've done it before, I can do it again!
But, LIFE IS GOOD! LIFE HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD!
You people who live in fear of collection agencies yet, drive new cars, have three or four credit cards, buy T-bones and bottles of wine...... Eat out everyday.. GET REAL!
I drive a 97 Olds with 189,000 miles. I have one credit card that I only use to keep my credit up. I don't buy anything on credit. If I don't have the money in my checking account, I don't buy it.
I've discovered that most store brand veggies are just as good and frozen veggies are the cheapest and makes more sense because you can actually proportion better than by using canned. They also taste fresher.
I like going to the grocery stores first thing in the morning, around 8 AM. I've become friends with all the meat department people. This is the time that they mark the meat down that was sold at regular price just two hours before. The meat is still good. Of course, sometimes you may come across some brown spots, but, early in the morning, it's doubtful. Just take the meat home and freeze it immediately.
I also wait until meats are on sale, buy lots of it, proportion it into zip-lock baggies, date it and then freeze it. I always have meat in the freezer.
I've canned veggies out of my garden, but that was years ago when I didn't work and was a stay at home mom. That can be expensive and time consuming. More power to those that do!
So, I can handle not having much money. I just can't handle the boredom of not working.
A few months ago, I bought a table-top loom at an auction for $15. Maybe I might look into learning how to set that darn thing up.
